Premium Economy Rip Off!!

It's my first time with China Southern: Premium Economy return Perth-Guangzhou-Paris-London.
What a rip off! And what lousy service! I have a whole catalogue of complaints. Having had
to book the flight urgently, I had no time to look at website critiques of the airline.

My main beef is with the standard of PE seating. There was a mere 10cm extra leg room.
The seat was just as narrow as that of economy class, reclining only about 10 degrees ...
US$2,000 extra just for that?! All other appointments and facilities were as for Economy.

I needed to contact the airline in the week prior to my departure. I rang the office
3 times and was met by 20-minute phone queues that I gave up on each time. I then emailed
the ‘Contact Us’ link on its website – my email was returned to me as ‘address invalid’.

I’d made advanced requests for a special meal and an aisle seat. Neither was realised on
the outward journey. I spent hours of my transit time in Guangzhou and Paris queuing at the
airline’s counter to rectify the unmet requests, but this could only be made possible for
the return flight. The standard of spoken English in the terminals and on board was poor,
and I sensed a distinct lack of enthusiasm and caring attitude.

As there’s no PE Paris-London, for that leg my ticket was a compensatory ‘Business Class’.
Yet there were no business class seats on the plane – hence I was seated in economy.

The airline proclaims ‘boarding priority’ for PE. In the 6 boardings, not once was PE announced in advance. I also discovered later that “Sky Pearl, Gold and Silver Card
accommodation and food service is available when irregular flights happen” i.e. use of the
Business-Class lounge during delays. One leg of my flight was delayed 5 hours (inclement
weather). I wasn’t aware at the time of this upgrade to the lounge, yet no such offer was
made to me by airline staff.

The in-flight entertainment selection was very limited and featured a vast majority of
Chinese films and music – this, on international flights. The food was boring. At each meal,
I had to ask for the bread to fill my blank bread plate. Coffee is only served black with
sugar in a flimsy plastic mug; I separately requested coffee with milk and no sugar,
after 30 minutes it arrived in the same crappy mug.

I was served breakfast towards the end of a leg in which most passengers slept. The staff
placed my meal down and didn’t try to wake me. An hour later, I woke to a cold meal with
barely enough time in which to eat it as the plane had started descending.

I’ve flown some lousy airlines from Bolivia to Sudan, and with the old Aeroflot. They all
ranked badly for service. I’m not saying that China Southern is the worst outfit I’ve used.
but, any more experiences such as this, it’ll be hard to decide which was.

On 26-04-"12 we had booked on the 20.30 flight. Unfortunately, due to serious delays on the bus-service to the airport we arrived 20minutes after the check-in desks had closed.
I hereby want to commend the efforts made by the Qatar groundstaff helping us to still board the plane before departure. The information desk attendant phoned for a member of staff to report again at the deserted check-in area to unpack labels and boarding cards. She very professionally dealt with the luggage etc. and escorted us with our cases to a seperate loading area for our baggage. Then with priority immigration passes she rushed us through and running most of the way we managed to board our plane just on time.

We could finally relax in our seats and were looked after by the flight attendants very well.
I can only be grateful to the groundstaff on duty because it was due to them that we did not miss our flight.
Most European Airlines (particularly the budget ones) would most certainly not even have tried to help us.

Well done anf thank you!

Mr. Geoffrey Holmes & Mr. Johannes Visser

I have flown Qatar many times, along with Qantas, BA and Virgin and must say the standard of service has been fantastic. I notice that most of the whingeing on here is from people flying economy expecting a higher class of service...tip..Pay for it! as for those who turn up to check in counters like pack mules (again in economy), read your ticket and the website...they are very specific in allowances. As for vegans complaining about smelling beef...get a life or buy yourself an oxy viva. Last but not least...if you buy an airline ticket of any class one month, how could you possibly expect to ask for a reduction a month later due to a "special offer"..try doing that with a car or packet of crisps...twat! Oh yes, I hardly think the captain would be standing at the gate waiting to board with passengers? for the record, most pilots exams are done under instruction in a flight simulator.
Go Qatar, look forward to flying you again!

China Southern has the worst cabin crew after all. Pilot took off from DXB airport 6 hours from schedule time and not even a word of apology was announced !!!

Delays to the inbound Manchester flight meant that we were held for two hours in the departure lounge. What was particularly annoying was that we had wanted to eat, but were not told of the flight delays. When we arrived late at Doha no effort was made to get transit passangers off the plane first, or even to have a special bus to take all the transit passengers to the transit terminal. We missed the first night of our honeymoon, which was spent in a hotel in Doha, which also meant we had a nightmarish day when we did finally arrive in Columbo, involving an 8 hour car journey following on from the Doha/Columbo flight. Ground staff in Doha didn't seem to care at all. Next time will fly Emirates or Gulf

HONG KONG - DOH - MAN (UK) 15.04.2012
Paid over £550 per person, totall we paid over £1100
Price is average at this time period. Not the cheapest one and not the most expensive one.

Both flights experiences were the worst in my life !

When me and husband traveling to HK, we have been arranged to sit in the middle of a group of families who have children and babies! We cannot really sleep at all. Bad cubin service too. No attention to customers! Also the water, which was sealed in a plastic container made in Harrogate UK, taste like water + plastic ! Taste awful. I was so worry that I will get food posioning!!

The worst of worst was the food!!! The chef know nothing about cooking! All the meals were awful!! We can only stuff in the side butter and bread rolls. Then we had no choice but to queue up at DOH airport to buy some expensive meals to fill up our stomachs!! Imagine your meals like: water soaked egg, undone potatoes, smell rubbish mushrooms and chicken sausages, poision tasted water, grass texture like veggie, rock hard scrumble egg, glue-like texture congee, extremely sour pineapple, warm fruits, water soaked hash brown, sugary dessert etc etc

When we came back from HK to UK. Again, food were absolutely uneatible!! Expecially the one so called 'chicken sausage' meal!! It scare me off right away! Smell bad, egg totally soaked in water, sausage tastes like out dated meat!! THis was completely a joke, I can say!! We paid for it and received such a bad experiences!! Never again!

I don't know how their chef can do this. Even a 5 year old kid can tell the meals are rubbish!

In addition, it seems like they have a team of newbies cubin stuff in flight too!! Their services are rubbish too!! Walking heavily all the times next to you (so that to make sure they can wake you up) ! Cannot understand english, e.g. ask for water, she gave you tea! Forget their own rows, and served other people rows and make a mess! Also they use Chinese tea instead of English tea for us to drink (that should be an english tea!) etc etc

When we come back from HK, there was a passenger keep producing smelly gas from his body. All the surroundings can smell of it. However the cubin staff did nothing to acknowledge him to keep it in, or to control himself . Or just go to the toilet. We, the passengers sitting around that area just have to breath in his gas. What a disgusting experience. !! The cubin stuff were not smart enough!!

Also when some of the families let their kids screams, the cubin stuff before usually would ask the parents to control the kids. However in both trips this time, all the cubin stuff just let those families unlead, let their kids screaming all the way!! How can it be?

This is the 3rd time I travel with Qatar and this is the worst of all!

I will never travel with Qatar again, even if it means I need to pay slightly more in fares.

Worst so ever!!

We used China Southern to fly from Hong Kong to Guilin return. What was an otherwise great trip to Yangshou had an unhappy ending after we arrived at the Guilin airport on a Sunday afternoon to discover that the flight to Hong Kong was cancelled. No reason was given. We were put up at the airport hotel where we spent the next 24 hours wondering if there would be a repeat cancellation the next day. The airport staff were not rude and I didn't see much point in blaming them. But I did get the impression that the airlines did frequent unannounced cancellations and doesn't care a rat's ass about the inconvenience it causes passengers. I do not recommend this airline.

Booked a flight with China Southern from Shen Zhen to Guilin for 21 April 2012. A fortnight before my departure, received an email from China Southern advising my flight was cancelled and that it would take up to 60 days to have my money refunded.
As I needed to be in Guilin on the 21st, I stupidly booked another China Southern flight from HK to Guilin and thought all would be OK. One week before this departure I am again advised by China Southern that this 2nd flight is also cancelled.
China Southern refused to reticket me onto another airline unless I flew to HK first and met with their rep at the China Southern counter. My Guilin holiday arrangements are now a mess

We love flying Emirates and do it every time we get the chance. Even on Economy Class the service is excellent. The inflight entertainment is great with lots of films, tv shows, music and games to chose from. The food is delicious, and there is a wide selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The seats are comfortable and there is plenty of leg space so you don't get your knees squished when the person in front of you reclines his seat. The cabin crew are the best, always smiling, chatting and being helpful. I don't know why other people have written such bad reviews. We have never experienced any delays, bad service or the like during our many travels with Emirates.
